Soarin’ Around the World is an aerial adventure ride located in Disney California Adventure Park at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. Originally debuting as Soarin’ Over California in 2001, the attraction was reimagined as Soarin’ Around the World in 2016, taking guests on a breathtaking simulated flight over some of the planet’s most famous landmarks. Using a massive IMAX-style dome screen, a state-of-the-art mechanical lift system, and immersive wind, scent, and motion effects, the ride creates the sensation of gliding through the skies like a hang glider pilot. The attraction is hosted by Patrick Warburton, whose humorous and friendly pre-flight safety briefing has become a fan-favorite part of the experience.
Guests begin their journey inside the Grizzly Peak Airfield, themed as a 1940s aviation terminal. After receiving safety instructions, they board a giant, multi-row ride platform, which lifts them high into the air before the massive 180-degree, 80-foot projection screen fills their view. As the experience begins, guests gently "take off" and soar over stunning global destinations, including the Swiss Alps, Sydney Harbour, the Great Wall of China, the African savanna, the Taj Mahal, and more. Each scene is brought to life with wind effects, scents (such as fresh grass and ocean mist), and gentle motion, making the flight feel incredibly realistic.
The ride’s grand finale brings guests back to Disneyland, where they glide over Sleeping Beauty Castle amid a spectacular nighttime fireworks display before returning safely to the ground. The smooth, uplifting orchestral score—originally composed by Jerry Goldsmith—enhances the breathtaking visuals and leaves riders with a sense of awe and wonder.
Soarin’ Around the World has a height requirement of 40 inches (102 cm), making it accessible to many families. The ride is gentle and smooth, with no sudden drops or jerky movements, making it a great option for those who may be wary of thrill rides. The total experience lasts about 5 minutes, and Lightning Lane access is available through Disney Genie+. Due to its immense popularity, wait times can be long, but the queue features interesting aviation-themed décor and interactive elements to keep guests entertained. With its breathtaking visuals, immersive effects, and inspirational feel, Soarin’ Around the World remains one of Disneyland Resort’s most beloved and must-experience attractions.
